Laia Abril is a multidisciplinary artist who works with photography, text, video and sound in research projects related to sexuality, eating disorders and gender equality. After graduating in journalism and studying photography in New York, she worked as editor and photographer for COLORS Magazine for 5 years. Author of books as Thinspiration (Selfpublished, 2012), The Epilogue (Dewi Lewis, 2014), Lobismuller (RM, 2016); her work is in private collections and museums such as the Musée de l’Elysée and the Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland, FRAC in France and MNAC or Fundació Foto Colectania in Barcelona. Her new long-term project A History of Misogyny has been recognized with the Madame-Figaro Award as Best Exhibition in Arles in 2016, The Hood Medal (London, 2019), the FOAM Paul Huf Award (Amsterdam, 2020), and his book On Abortion (Dewi Lewis, 2018) was recognized as the best book of the year by Aperture-Paris Photo and nominated for the Deutsche Börse Award in 2019. She is currently working on her project supported by the Visionary Award and the MagnumFoundation; she is represented by the Parisian Gallery Els Filles du Calvaire.
